Flexi Displays Have Arrived

In a move that pretty much kills the rCard in its infancy, Siemens has begun showing off flexible displays at the Plastics Electronics show in Frankfurt.

Now a long time in coming, flexible displays are bound to start showing up on everything from cereal boxes to business cards and marketing materials sometime in 2007. Because they can be printed directly onto paper or foil backing, they require minimal manufacturing time and they're expected to be dirt-cheap to produce.

Flexi screens are made by depositing organic phosphors into an electrically charged matrix to form an OLED display. Even the unit's battery source can be printed directly onto the device, allowing for months of operation before it flickers and dies.

I seriously doubt these things will be biodegradeable, but is it too much to hope that they'll at least be recyclable?
